It is our strong belief that what makes a parish special and alive is not just a group of buildings, but a community of persons who together follow the teachings of Jesus. Each of us are called to live Jesus – to become the hands, feet, voice, mind and heart of Jesus.

MINISTRIES AND ORGANIZATIONS
Administration Commission (Parsih Finance/Parish Operations) - Advises the pastor in making financial decisions and planning for the financial stability of the parish. Gary Dickerson 653-7290
Adult Altar Servers (Parish Worship) Adults serve at the daily 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Masses, as well as special daily services, i.e. 50 & Over Mass, Senior Day, Holy Days, Holidays and at Funerals/Memorial Services. Justin Piper 654-2503
All Souls Day Noon Prayer (Annual Event) Annual Prayer Service held inside the Mausoleum at noon on All Souls Day. Julie Richards 658-1135
Altar Servers (Parish Worship) - Boys and girls, who have celebrated their First Eucharist and who assist at the altar during Mass. Training provided.

Altar Society (Parish Life) - This organization is voluntary and open to all women of the parish. Its purpose is to provide altar breads, wine, candles, vestments, linens, and other items used in liturgical celebrations, and to clean and care for the sacristies and sanctuaries. Members meet on the first Tuesday of the month. Their main fund-raising project is the Spring Raffle. Mary Ann Moore 742-8618

Annulment Ministry (Community Service)
Provides assistance to divorced persons seeking a judgment on the validity/invalidity of their former marriage (Annulment). Meetings are scheduled with Petitioner as needed. Deacon Dan Fairweather 653-0070
 
Art & Environment (Parish Worship) - Helps create a prayerful church environment in order to enhance community worship in keeping with the various liturgical seasons and events. Terri Donajkowski 653-4708
 
Baptism Classes (Parish Education) - Parents who wish to have their child baptized are expected to attend baptismal preparation class (for first child only). The class is held at 1:30 p.m. on a Sunday afternoon and is scheduled several times each year. Parish Office 653-2377 Forms and Class schedule
Beach Party (Annual Event) Winter time event to lift everyone's spirits with Summertime dress, games, and food. Occurs every other year, the 1st Saturday in February. Rob Moquin 653-2377
BeFrienders Ministry (Parish Community Service) -
Provide care through a listening presence. Formal training required, monthly meetings, and time commitment to Befrienders. Meetings scheduled once per month, individuals meet privately with their BeFriender. Jessica Reif 652-0304 ext.269
Bereavement Dinner Ministry (Parish Community Service) - Parishioners prepare and serves a dinner for bereaved families and friends following the funeral of their loved one. (Weekdays) Becky Josza 658-1936 & Myra Blundell 653-8115
Bingo (Parish Life) - Helps earn money for St. John Parish. Bingo held at St. John hall (450 building) Sunday, Wednesday, and Thursday and in Waterford, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Richard Hamper 653-9902
Blessed Sacrament Sodality (Parish Worship) - Parishioners -- both women and men -- who assist in maintaining and cleaning the sanctuary and other church areas. Peggy Sylvester 810-658-9766

CAFE' - Catholic Adult Formation & Education (Parish Education) A highly energized team committed to offering wholesome educational and formational programs for adults of all agesThe CAFE' team has hosted programs with well known speakers and performers; Steve Ray, Steve Angrisano and Sister Helen Prejean. The team maintains a CD Rack, located in the gathering space in the church, which offers different topics on Catholic teachings. The Coffee and Faith Enrichment evenings, held at St. John Family Center, have been very successful. These evenings, held on the third Wednesday of the month from February through May, consist of a presentation followed by group discussion and plenty of free coffee. Elaine Ouellette 658-4776 ext 272
Catholic Heart Workcamp (CHWC) (Annual Event) The Workcamp (CHWC) mission is to revitalize communities and beautify homes for the elderly, disabled and those who cannot afford needed repairs. Cemetery/Mausoleum (Parish Finance/Operations) - Provides a final resting place in a Catholic cemetery that is pleasant and well cared for -- a place to visit for a few moments of reflection with a loved one. Located on the corner of Richfield and Oak Roads. Dianne Campbell 658-7114

Collection Counters (Parish Finance) - A dedicated group of volunteers who meet once a week to count the weekend collections. They tally up envelopes and money according to Diocesan Fiscal and Accounting standards. Barb McCrandall 653-5810
Communication/Marketing Committee (Stewardship Commission) A group of parish volunteers having expertise with communications, marketing, and salesmanship skills who assist parish staff and ministry leaders with specific communications, publication, marketing, announcement needs. This committee will work with the Computerization, Graphic Arts, Technology Committee to assure appropriate support tool applications are available. Contact Fr. Computer/Graphic Arts/Technology Advisory Committee (Stewardship Commission) A group of parish volunteers who have knowledge of, expertise with, and an interest in assisting with the research development and introduction of state of the art, cost effective, graphic arts, technology, and computerization applications that will enhance the effectiveness of St. John the Evangelist parish operations and ministries communications endeavors. Corpus Christi Prayer Group (Parish Spiritual Growth/Evangelizing) Charismatic prayer group that brings people to a personal relationship with Jesus, through worship, praise, prayer petitions, sharing and talks on various Catholic subjects. Meetings are on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. in the chapel.

Country Breakfast (Parish Life) - Breakfast fundraiser provided by the Youth Group. Free will offering. Occurs once a month from 7:30 - 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. Becky Beck 658-2875
Eagles' Nest (Parish Life) - Located in the Family Center in room 103, the Eagles' Nest offers child care, providing you the opportunity to work out in the Wellness Center, walk the track, volunteer during P.R.E.P., visit the Library or attend a meeting on Campus. When you sign your child in, you will be issued a pager. Should your child require your immediate attention, you will be notified via the pager. Eucharistic Adoration (Parish Spiritual Growth/Evangelizing) - Eucharistic adoration is an expression of our love for Jesus, who loves us so much that He never wants to leave us and so stays with us day and night in the Blessed Sacrament. Eucharistic Adoration is held every Thursday in the chapel following the 10:00 a.m. Mass until 9:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed to sponsor an hour of prayer. Eucharistic Ministers (Parish Worship) - Lay ministers who assist at Mass by sharing the Eucharist; the Body and Blood of Christ with Mass participants. Training provided and schedule posted in the vesting room. Neil & Pam Kiefer 658-4005
Familia (Parish Education) - A program that helps parents develop a strong family structure, promote harmony among family members, pass on the meaning of the Gospel to their children and foster an awareness of the need of Christ in their daily lives. The program consists of bi-monthly meetings for mothers of young children. A program for husbands and fathers is also available as well as one for married couples. Keith & Judy Hendryx 653-0280
50 & Over Club (Parish Life) - Offers social functions including entertainment and extended trips for seniors; prepares and delivers holiday "Love Baskets" of fruit, candy and cookies for homebound seniors; meets on the third Tuesday for Liturgy at 5:00 p.m., followed by a potluck dinner. Ann Schuller 653-0816
Genesee County Catholic Women's Jail Ministry (Parish Community Service) - To bring hope, encouragement and the love of God to women in the Genesee County Jail by sharing the Bible, the Catholic faith and Mass once per month. Meeting once per week, on Wednesday evening from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Joann Sargenson 631-2372
Gift Bearers (Parish Worship) - Actively involves parishioners in the Liturgy, by presenting the bread, wine and monetary offerings of the assembly. No training is required. Individuals may sign-up for special family dates. Arleen Christopherson 653-1766
Gift Shop, St. John (Spiritual Growth) - Visit us for unique gifts to celebrate those special occasions, especially First Communion, Baptism, Confirmation and Weddings. Or warm up your home with décor items which will serve as daily reminders of God’s Word and unfailing promises. We have beautiful gifts in stock and we can accommodate special orders. The shop is located off the entrance lobby of the chapel and is open Saturday 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m, Sunday 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 12 Noon or call Sandy Versteeg for an appointment at 653-5794. 
Green Thumb (Parish Finance) - To maintain a welcoming spirit to all who may pass by or stop to visit at St. John Campus. To help all God's green and colorful creations put forth their best display as they were given to us by God, to enjoy their beauty and fragrance. One meeting in the Spring time, where gardens are assigned to gardeners. Scheduled grooming times are Monday - Friday: 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday: 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. with no activity on Sunday. Work can be accomplished at your convenience. One Fall roundup and luncheon to close the season. Judy Neuharth 664-6877
Greening Committee (Stewardship Commission) A group of parish volunteers who investigate and remain acquainted with environmentally and ecological friendly building and business operation practices and procedures. The committee performs research, analysis and makes recommendations for cost effective changes as appropriate to parish practices and procedures that keep us compliant with Catholic Church directive stewardship toward our environment and ecology. Contact Fr. Greeters (Parish Worship) - Greet parishioners and guests before weekend Masses and distribute worship aids used in services. Assigned on a rotating basis approximately every six weeks; required to be present half an hour before Mass. Lora Phillips 810-658-1968
Grief Ministry (Parish Community Service) - A lay Grief Support Group (the Gathering), that meets at the St. John Family Center, once a week at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays between September and January. After January, meetings are scheduled as needed. Patty Wesener 636-7802

Human Resources/Time and Talent Committee (Stewardship Commission) A group of parish volunteers who remain abreast of parish human resources needs. The committee utilizes a variety of means to assist parish members with identification of their individual strengths/ talents and how the identified strengths /talents can be used to support specific parish ministries and services. Library Committee (Parish Education) - To serve the People of St. John the Evangelist, Davison, by providing a balanced selection of resources that encourage spiritual and moral growth. The Library has a wealth of material for all age groups. We seek to foster a deeper understanding of our Catholic Faith as we journey through life. We offer Bible study aids, children’s materials that teach values as well as entertain, Catholic magazines, videos on the Holy Land, and more!

Little Rock Scripture Study (Parish Spiritual Growth/Evangelizing) - A parish based program that leads people to a greater understanding of the Bible, awareness of God's living presence in Sacred Scripture, and an appreciation of how the Bible can be applied to daily life. Through personal study, small group discussion, lecture and prayer, the program provides a solid balance of scholarship, reflection, and application. Meetings are weekly for 1 ½ hours, either morning or evening sessions available. Men’s Club (Parish Life) - This organization was created for all men of the parish. Its purpose is to create a closer bond of friendship between all men of the parish. This organization strives to enhance specific spiritual, physical, cultural and social life of the men of our parish as well as the service needs required by the parish. Some of its activities to include fund raisers, sports organization and supervision for the youth of our parish, sports activities and guest speakers, Father’s Day recognition and a parish picnic. Natural Family Planning (Parish Education) - To promote the Church's teaching on contraception and to instruct couples on how to practice the only family planning option that the Church supports, Natural Family Planning. Outreach East (Parish Community Service) - Assists needy persons in the Greater Davison area and M-15 corridor by supplying food, shelter, utility payments, etc., thus fulfilling Christ's mandate to feed the hungry and shelter the homeless. Parish Hall / Facilities Rental (Parish Finance) - Arrange hall rental for receptions and parties; familiarize renters with rules and amenities related to hall rental. Jessica Reif 652-0304 ext. 269
Parish Pastoral Council (Parish Finance/Operations) - Advises and works with the pastor in meeting parish needs; serves as the vehicle to facilitate full participation of parishioners, thereby giving all a voice in the many aspects of parish life. Council membership includes representatives of the various parish ministries and organizations. All parishioners are welcome to attend Council meetings. Meets eight time per year. Pilgrim Virgin Evangelization 2000 (Spiritual Growth/Evangelizing) - Arranges to have a statue of Our Lady of Fatima taken to parish households, in keeping with the desire of the Holy Father and the bishops as part of the Church's Millennium Evangelization effort. Polka Mass / Dinner (Parish Life) - The Polish Mass and Dinner is an uplifting and very inspirational event at St. John parish. The Mass itself is lively, filled with beautiful Polish hymns. The colorful costumes and the friendly, fun loving Polish descendants are only part of the cultural experience you can look forward to when you join in on the celebration. Pre-Marriage Classes (Parish Education) - Engaged couples are asked to contact one of the priests or deacons at least 9 months prior to their wedding date. Each couple is required to attend an Introduction to Natural Family Planning class, a Perspectives in Faith seminar and a two-part communication class, We Care. In addition, each couple is asked to complete and review FOCCUS, (Facilitating Open Couple Communication Understanding and Study) a pre-marital inventory survey. Pre-School (Parish Education) - The St. John Preschool serves children ages 2 ½ - 5 years. We are a state licensed facility offering a choice between a 
Kindergarten, Early Fives, Child Development program or Montessori program. The Montessori classroom is a structured, individualized program, which uses specific materials and activities that are designed to help develop independence and organization in learning, The Child Development classroom is designed to provide a wide variety of hands-on learning experiences as well as opportunities for creative play and socialization. Lori Peppin 653-1901

Remarriage Seminar - Ministers to couples preparing for remarriage, affording them an opportunity to share and reflect on topics such as remarriage and the Catholic Church, readiness for remarriage, the couple's expectations, blending families, families of origin, etc. Catholic Charities Office 517-342-2458
Respect Life (Parish Education)  -To bring prayer, works, and education of pro-life issues and events to the parish of St. John. Meets the last Thursday of every other month, as well as various pro-life activities that take place around the campus and community. Todd & Tanya Babiasz 658-7525
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) (Parish Education)  - Initiates people into the Roman Catholic Tradition of the Christian way of life through the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist. The entire process includes prayer and reflection, formal instruction, and active participation in the life of the parish. The length of the initiation process is determined by the background and needs of individual participants. Children age 7 and up are included in this process using age appropriate material. Rosary Making Guild (Parish Spiritual Growth) - Makes rosaries to send to the missions and to be used in some local celebrations, thereby promoting devotion to Mary. Meets every second Monday of the month at 3:00 p.m. in the Family Center. Mary Ashley 742-7835
Scrip Program [Cash Gift Certificates] (Parish Life/Activities) - This program is a fundraiser for the All Parish Family Center. Volunteers are asked to give thirty minutes after Mass once a month to help. For each certificate sold to parishioners for groceries, gasoline, and restaurants the parish receives a percentage. Shawl Ministry (Parish Spiritual Growth/Evangelizing) - This is a group of knitters and crocheters whose purpose is to stitch God’s love, care and warmth into shawls for those who need them. Mary Cadwell 658-3839
Sports Council (Parish Life) - The Sports Council looks to find ways to provide and monitor athletic opportunities in a Christian setting through the use of our facilities and other sites. Examples are Basketball for 40 and Over, and Basketball Camp for grades (1-4). Stewardship Core Team (Stewardship Commission) - A group of parish volunteers and staff members who oversee and react to the on-going challenges of keeping a "Total Stewardship Parish" process in focus and growing. Committee responsibilities include monitoring the effectiveness of implemented actions and make recommendations for changes that will further institutionalize stewardship within our Stewardship goals.
Ushers (Parish Worship) - Ensure that worshipers are seated comfortably, assist elderly and disabled persons, collect the weekly offering, direct Communion lines and otherwise assist at Masses and other services. Wellness Desk & Family Center (Parish Finance) - Welcome Desk Assistants provide customer service to visitors entering the Family Center. Provide information about programs and facility, accept payments for Wellness Center and current programs, answer phone and make coffee. Wellness Center Overseers monitor usage of the St. John/McLaren Wellness Center and track. Assist with equipment and ensure safety in Wellness Center.

World Apostolate of Fatima (Blue Army) (Parish Spiritual Growth/Evangelizing) - Aim to fulfill the request of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Fatima, Portugal, in 1917 by praying the Rosary daily, wearing the Brown Scapular, and offering to God all the sacrifices necessary to keep the Commandments while performing the duties of daily life. Worship Commission (Parish Worship) - Assesses the needs of the assembly and implements plans for effective liturgical celebrations; provides ongoing evaluation to ensure that liturgical celebrations are effective and meet the needs of the people of St. John Parish. Provides education and promotes the development of liturgical ministers (lectors, ushers Eucharistic ministers, greeters, gift bearers and altar servers). Terri Donajkowski 653-4708
Vocation Cross (Parish Spiritual Growth/Evangelizing) Parishioners receive the Vocation Cross during Sunday Mass. The Vocation Cross resides in their home while the family prays for Vocations for one to two weeks. The sign-up sheet is in the Bridal Room. Lisa & Frank Kudwa 653-8303
Young Adults (Parish Education) - A Young Adult is defined as anyone age 18 to 39, single or married. The Diocese of Lansing sponsors retreats, social events and a unique program called Liturgy on Tap specifically for this group. At St. John Church, having one of the largest Young Adult populations in our region, we are aware of their continuing needs and concerns. We welcome anyone who is interested in assisting our Youth Minister with the planning of events which will meet those needs. Youth Group (Parish Education) - Youth Ministry seeks to nurture in young persons positive Catholic values of love, honesty, courage, peace and non-violence, fidelity, chastity, generosity, tolerance, respect for life, care and compassion, service to needy persons, equality, social justice, integrity and responsibility to community.
