It is our strong belief that what makes a parish special and alive is not just a group of buildings, but a community of persons who together follow the teachings of Jesus. Each of us are called to live Jesus – to become the hands, feet, voice, mind and heart of Jesus.

Altar Society (Parish Life) - This organization is voluntary and open to all women of the parish. Its purpose is to provide altar breads, wine, candles, vestments, linens, and other items used in liturgical celebrations, and to clean and care for the sacristies and sanctuaries. Members meet on the first Tuesday of the month. Their main fund-raising project is the Spring Raffle. Mary Ann Moore 742-8618
Annulment Ministry (Community Service) - Provides assistance in obtaining a Church annulment for divorced and remarried persons, as well as those contemplating remarriage. Deacon Dan Fairweather 653-0070
Art & Environment (Parish Worship) - Helps create a prayerful church environment in order to enhance community worship in keeping with the various liturgical seasons and events. Terri Donajkowski 653-4708
Baptism Classes (Parish Education) - Parents who wish to have their child baptized are expected to attend baptismal preparation class (for first child only). The class is held at 7:00 p.m. on a Sunday evening and is scheduled several times each year. Parish Office 653-2377  Forms and Class schedule
BeFrienders Ministry (Parish Community Service) - BeFrienders is a group of trained, lay pastoral care members of St. John the Evangelist. Everyone at times is on a difficult journey and needs a caring companion who will listen, empathize and be a reminder of their caring faith community. BeFrienders provide care through a listening presence to anyone experiencing illness, stress of care-giving, divorce or separation, death of a loved one, job loss, depression or other stressful life experiences. Laurie Miles 652-0304
Bereavement Dinner Ministry (Parish Community Service) - Parishioners prepare and serves a dinner for bereaved families and friends following the funeral of their loved one. (Weekdays) Becky Josza 658-1936
Bingo (Parish Life) - Helps earn money for the Building Fund and other parish needs. St. John Hall: Sunday, Wednesday, and Thursday Pontiac: Tuesday and Saturday. Dianne Campbell 658-7114
Blessed Sacrament Sodality (Parish Worship) - Parishioners -- both women and men -- who assist in maintaining and cleaning the sanctuary and other church areas.  Alice Defever 653-6989
Blue Army (Parish Spiritual Growth/Evangelizing) - Aim to fulfill the request of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Fatima, Portugal, in 1917 by praying the Rosary daily, wearing the Brown Scapular, and offering to God all the sacrifices necessary to keep the Commandments while performing the duties of daily life. Boy Scouts / Cub Scouts Serve others while instilling values in young persons and preparing them to make ethical choices in order to achieve their full potential. 235-2531  
Bulletin Inserters (Parish Life) - Persons who come and insert the notice/notices in the bulletin when necessary. This is done usually on Friday morning. Veronica Ur  653-2377 ext 221
CAFE' Catholic Adult Formation &  Education (Parish Education)  A highly energized team committed to offering wholesome educational and formational programs for adults of all agesThe CAFE" team has hosted  programs with well known speakers and performers; Steve Ray, Steve Angrisano and Sister Helen Prejean. The team maintains a CD Rack, located in the gathering space in the church, which offers different topics on Catholic teachings.  The Coffee and Faith Enrichment evenings, held at Big Apple Bagel in Davison, have been very successful.  These evenings, held on the third Wednesday of the month from February through May, consist of a presentation followed by group discussion and plenty of free coffee. Elaine Ouellette 658-4776 ext 272
Cemetery/Mausoleum (Parish Finance/Operations) - Provides a final resting place in a Catholic cemetery that is pleasant and well cared for -- a place to visit for a few moments of reflection with a loved one. Located on the corner of Richfield and Oak Roads. Dianne Campbell 658-7114

Christian Service Commission (Parish Community Service) - Provides food, clothing and financial assistance to needy persons in the parish and the Davison area. Provides Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter Baskets, school clothing and supplies. Parish Office 653-2377
Collection Counters (Parish Finance) - A dedicated group of volunteers who meet once a week to count the weekend collections. They tally up envelopes and money according to Diocesan Fiscal and Accounting standards. Barb McCrandall 653-5810
Daughters of Isabella (Parish Life) - Regina Coeli Circle 1095 meets the second Thursday of every month to plan and perform various charitable works. Motto: Charity, Unity and Friendship. Everill Conroy 653-6074
Eagles' Nest - Located in the Family Center in room 103, the Eagles' Nest offers child care, providing you the opportunity to work out in the Wellness Center, walk the track, volunteer during P.R.E.P., visit the Library or attend a meeting on Campus. When you sign your child in, you will be issued a pager. Should your child require your immediate attention, you will be notified via the pager. Open Sunday 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; Monday - Thursday 4:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Closed during the summer. Donations are asked to offset the cost of the service. Becky Jones 743-3171
Education Commission (Parish Education) - The Education Commission seeks to increase parishioner involvement in parish educational opportunities for children, youth, adults and families. It seeks to be a guiding council for religious education and Catholic school needs for St. John community.Greg Carlson 931-0754
Eucharistic Adoration (Parish Spiritual Growth/Evangelizing) - Eucharistic adoration is an expression of our love for Jesus, who loves us so much that He never wants to leave us and so stays with us day and night in the Blessed Sacrament. Eucharistic Adoration is held every Thursday in the chapel following the 10:00 a.m. Mass until 9:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed to sponsor an hour of prayer. Eucharistic Ministers (Parish Worship) - Lay ministers who assist at Mass by sharing the Eucharist -- the Body and Blood of Christ --under the forms of bread and wine. Neil & Pam Kiefer 658- 4005
Evangelization (E-Team) (Parish Spiritual Growth/Evangelizing) - Explores parish needs, with special attention to alienated persons, inactive Catholics and those who are unchurched, in order to bring the Good News to all levels of humankind; plans parish missions and other events to help evangelize the community through a closer relationship with Christ and a life filled with the Holy Spirit. Familia (Parish Education) - A program that helps parents develop a strong family structure, promote harmony among family members, pass on the meaning of the Gospel to their children and foster an awareness of the need of Christ in their daily lives. The program consist of bi-monthly meetings for mothers of young children. A program for husbands and fathers is also available.Keith & Judy Hendryx 653-0280
Family Center Volunteers (Parish Life) - Join the team that assists in the operation of the St. John Family Center. Welcome Desk Assistants welcome and assist visitors entering the Family Center, answer the phone, make coffee and accept registrations and payments for current programs. Wellness Center Overseers monitor the St. John/McLaren Wellness Center and track. Gym Supervisors ensure a safe environment for users of the Family Center gymnasium. 50 & Over Club (Parish Life) - Offers social functions including entertainment and extended trips for seniors; prepares and delivers holiday "Love Baskets" of fruit, candy and cookies for homebound seniors; meets on the third Tuesday for Liturgy at 5:00 p.m., followed by a potluck dinner.  Sue VanderKooy 636-7340
First Friday Memorial Fund (Parish Worship) - An opportunity for parishioners to make a special offering, whereby their intentions are remembered at the 8:00 or 10:00 a.m. Mass on the First Friday of each month, beginning on November 1 through October 31. A yearly offering of $60.00 for these Masses should be made in the parish office by October 10. Requests made later than October 10 are updated monthly for publication in the parish bulletin. Gift Bearers (Parish Worship) - Actively involves parishioners in the Liturgy of the Mass by presenting the bread, wine and monetary offerings of the assembly. Arleen Christopherson 653-1766
Gift Shop, St. John (Spiritual Growth) - Visit us for unique gifts to celebrate those special occasions, especially First Communion, Baptism, Confirmation and Wed dings. Or warm up your home with décor items which  will serve as daily reminders of God’s Word and unfailing promises. We have beautiful gifts in stock and we can accommodate special orders. The shop is located off the entrance lobby of the chapel and is open Saturday 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m, Sunday 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 12 Noon or by appointment by calling Sandy Versteeg at 653-5794

Greeters (Parish Worship) - Greet parishioners and guests before weekend Masses and distribute worship aids used in services. Assigned on a rotating basis approximately every six weeks; required to be present half an hour before Mass. Kim Laux  654-0135
Habitat for Humanity (Parish Community Service) - Genesee County Habitat for Humanity is a non-denominational Christian ministry whose mission is building houses and communities in partnership with God’s people in need. Dick DuCharme 653-2868
HUP Access Point (Parish Community Service) - is a facility, located in the Parish Hall (450 Building), that provides free internet service where job seekers can go in their own neighborhoods or communities to search for jobs listed on the Michigan Talent Bank. Trained volunteers from the faith-based or community organization connect them, via computer, to job search services, assist with resumé preparation and, if needed, direct referrals for human services.  Bernie & Rosei Tholl 245-8559
Knights of Columbus Council 4090 (Parish Life) - Men's Catholic fraternal organization, providing assistance to groups such as Outreach East, Boysville, Guest House, groups serving persons mentally or physically challenged, etc.; also supports men preparing for priesthood through annual "Desert Meal." Legion of Mary (Parish Spiritual Growth/Evangelizing) - Ministers to the parish, as assigned by the pastor, by visiting and bringing the Eucharist to homebound persons and those in hospitals and nursing homes; also provides outreach to inactive and/or alienated Catholics. Library Committee (Parish Education) - To serve the People of St. John the Evangelist, Davison, by providing a balanced selection of resources that encourage spiritual and moral growth. The Library has a wealth of material for all age groups. We seek to foster a deeper understanding of our Catholic Faith as we journey through life. We offer Bible study aids, children’s materials that teach values as well as entertain, Catholic magazines, videos on the Holy Land, and more! Michael Madden 653-8472
Liturgy of the Word for Children (Parish Worship) - Children, ages 5 - 10, attending the 12:00 Noon Mass, gather in the chapel prior to the first reading. A volunteer presider from the parish reads the gospel and discusses it on a level appropriate for children. The children also participate during the intercessory prayers. After the profession of Faith they return to their families. It’s a wonderful opportunity for children to pray and reflect at their own level. 
Marriage Preparation Classes (Parish Education) - Engaged couples are asked to contact one of the priests or deacons at least 9 months prior to their wedding date. Each couple is required to attend an Introduction to Natural Family Planning class, a Perspectives in Faith seminar and a two-part communication class, We Care. In addition, each couple is asked to complete and review FOCCUS, (Facilitating Open Couple Communication Understanding and Study) a pre-marital inventory survey. Men’s Club (Parish Life) - This organization was created for all men of the parish. Its purpose is to create a closer bond of friendship between all men of the parish. This organization strives to enhance specific spiritual, physical, cultural and social life of the men of our parish as well as the service needs required by the parish. Some of its activities to include fund raisers, sports organization and supervision for the youth of our parish, sports activities and guest speakers, Father’s Day recognition and a parish picnic. Ministry to the Sick / Homebound / Elderly (Parish Community Service) - Takes the Eucharist weekly to persons who are unable to come to church for a period of time, usually on Thursdays or Fridays, between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., and after Sunday Masses, if necessary.  Veronica Ur 653-2377 ext 223
Ministry of Table (Parish Life) - Much of Jesus’ ministry was centered around the table or breaking bread together. The Ministry of Table at St. John Catholic Church is carrying on the tradition established by Jesus. We try to show the hospitality of breaking bread together as a service to those who visit our parish campus. Dianne Campbell 658-7114
MOMS Club (Parish Life) - The club enables moms to meet and children to interact with other children in a Christian atmosphere on a regular basis. Meets the second and fourth Thursday of the month at 10:00 a.m. in the Family Center. Kim Laux 654-0135 
Natural Family Planning (Parish Education) - Natural Family Planning (NFP) provides a medically safe, healthy, and very low cost method for planning your family. It is proven to be 99% effective in postponing pregnancy and it is 100% natural and safe from health risks or harmful side effects. It is also very effective for couples having a hard time achieving pregnancy. All religious bodies including the Catholic Church accept the use of NFP by married couples. North End Soup Kitchen (Parish Community Service) - Assist in preparing and serving meals to needy persons on the third Thursday of the month between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.  Yvonne Masson 653-8894
Outreach East (Parish Community Service) - Assists needy persons in the Greater Davison area and M-15 corridor by supplying food, shelter, utility payments, etc., thus fulfilling Christ's mandate to feed the hungry and shelter the homeless. Parish Hall / Facilities Rental (Parish Finance) - Arrange hall rental for receptions and parties; familiarize renters with rules and amenities related to hall rental. Laurie Miles 652-0304
Pastoral Council (Parish Life) - Advises and works with the pastor in meeting parish needs; serves as the vehicle to facilitate full participation of parishioners, thereby giving all a voice in the many aspects of parish life. Council membership includes representatives of the various parish ministries and organizations. All parishioners are welcome to attend Council meetings. Meets eight time per year. Pilgrim Virgin Evangelization 2000 (Spiritual Growth/Evangelizing) - Arranges to have a statue of Our Lady of Fatima taken to parish households, in keeping with the desire of the Holy Father and the bishops as part of the Church's Millennium Evangelization effort. Polka Mass / Dinner (Parish Life) - The Polish Mass and Dinner is an uplifting and very inspirational event at St. John parish. The Mass itself is lively, filled with beautiful Polish hymns. The colorful costumes and the friendly, fun loving Polish descendants are only  part of the cultural experience you can look forward to when you join in on the celebration. The dinner includes many delicious Polish dishes and lots of fun and dancing to polka classics performed by a live polka band. Gary & Kathy Gay 653-2244

Pre-School (Parish Education) - The St. John Preschool serves children ages 2 ½ - 5 years. We are a state licensed facility offering a choice between a Montessori program and a Child Development Preschool program. The Montessori classroom is a structured, individualized program, which uses specific materials and activities that are designed to help develop independence and organization in learning, The Child Development classroom is designed to provide a wide variety of hands-on learning experiences as well as opportunities for creative play and socialization.  Lori Peppin 653-1901
P.R.E.P.  (Parish Religious Education Program) (Parish Education) - Preschool Sunday School, Kindergarten and Elementary through 5th Grade Nurtures the faith formation and religious education of pre school and elementary children through formal classes (September - April) and Vacation Bible School (VBS) in the summer. Grades 6, 7, 8 and Youth (Parish Education) - Youth Ministry seeks to nurture in young persons positive Catholic values of love, honesty, courage, peace and non-violence, fidelity, chastity, generosity, tolerance, respect for life, care and compassion, service to needy persons, equality, social justice, integrity and responsibility to community. Prison and Jail Ministry (Parish Community Service) - Brings God to inmates through Catholic Services and visitations to local prisons and jails. Joann Sargenson 631-2372
Remarriage Seminar - Ministers to couples preparing for remarriage, affording them an opportunity to share and reflect on topics such as remarriage and the Catholic Church, readiness for remarriage, the couple's expectations, blending families, families of origin, etc. Catholic Charities Office 517-342-2458
Respect Life (Parish Education)  - We are called to up hold the dignity of the human person from conception until natural death. We attempt to bring the Light of Christ to the culture of death by education and awareness.Todd & Tanya Babiasz 658-7525
Retrouvaille (Troubled Marriage Program) - 313-237-6052 www.retrouvaille.org Ministers to married couples who are frustrated, hurt, angry with each other; who feel alone, distant, disillusioned or bored; who are thinking about separation or divorce; who don't know how to change or where to turn. 
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) (Parish Education)  - Initiates people into the Roman Catholic Tradition of the Christian way of life through the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist. The entire process includes prayer and reflection, formal instruction, and active participation in the life of the parish. The length of the initiation process is determined by the background and needs of individual participants. Children age 7 and up are included in this process using age appropriate material. Rosary (Parish Spiritual Growth) - Prayed daily in the chapel after the 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Masses. 
Rosary Making Guild (Parish Spiritual Growth) - Makes rosaries to send to the missions and to be used in some local celebrations, thereby promoting devotion to Mary. Meets every second Monday of the month at 3:00 p.m. in the Family Center. Mary Ashley 742-7835
Scrip Program [Cash Gift Certificates] (Parish Finance) - This program is a fundraiser for the All Parish Family Center. Volunteers are asked to give thirty minutes after Mass once a month to help. For each certificate sold to parishioners for groceries, gasoline, and restaurants the parish receives a percentage. There is an occasional meeting for about 1 ½ hours. Scripture Sharing (Parish Education)  - Weekly (Thursdays 8:45 - 9:45 a.m.) faith-sharing process based on the following Sunday's Scripture readings.Barb McCrandall 653-5810
Scripture Study (Little Rock Program) (Parish Education) - A unique approach to Scripture study employing solid principles of adult learning to meet the educational and spiritual needs of Catholic men and women. Components include daily personal study, weekly small-group sharing, a brief lecture and a simple, effective method of shared prayer in the small group. Elaine Ouellette 658-4776
Sports Council (Parish Life) - The Sports Council looks to find ways to provide and monitor athletic opportunities in a Christian setting through the use of our facilities and other sites.Gary Peppin 653-1901 or Ted Miles 653-3797
Stewardship Ministry (Stewardship Commission) - A ministry dedicated to developing and channeling the time and talents of our Parish Family to better serve the needs of our church and the community. 
Transportation Ministry (Parish Community Service) - Share your ride with persons who need transportation to and from church on Sundays and Holydays. Judy Hogg 653-4964
Ushers (Parish Worship) - Ensure that worshipers are seated comfortably, assist elderly and disabled persons, collect the weekly offering, direct Communion lines and otherwise assist at Masses and other services. Men, women, young adults and teens are welcome. Dennis Cornell 793-2991
Vacation Bible School (VBS) (Parish Education) - Summer program (held in July) for children ages three through fifth grade (just completed), enabling them to learn how God works in their lives. Children are gathered in multi-age groups to enjoy activities, dramas, music, snacks, etc. Youth and adult volunteers are actively sought. Elaine Davis 658-4776 ext 236
Word and Communion Service (Parish Worship) - Provides parishioners an opportunity to celebrate God's Word and the Eucharist apart from Mass on Saturdays at 8:00 a.m. and when needed during the week at 10:00 a.m. Parish Office 653-2377
Worship Commission (Parish Worship) - Assesses the needs of the assembly and implements plans for effective liturgical celebrations; provides ongoing evaluation to ensure that liturgical celebrations are effective and meet the needs of the people of St. John Parish. Provides education and promotes the development of liturgical ministers (lectors, ushers Eucharistic ministers, greeters, gift bearers and altar servers). Terri Donajkowski 653-4708
Young Adults (Parish Education) - A Young Adult is defined as anyone age 18 to 39, single or married. The Diocese of Lansing sponsors retreats, social events and a unique program called Liturgy on Tap specifically for this group. At St. John Church, having one of the largest Young Adult populations in our region, we are aware of their continuing needs and concerns. We welcome anyone who is interested in assisting our Youth Minister with the planning of events which will meet those needs. College students, returning home for holiday and summer breaks, are invited to gather for social and faith sharing sessions. For more information contact Paul Schlegelmilch at 658-2875.
